The 2007 release of Shape of Broad Mind’s critically acclaimed “Craft of the Lost Ark “ first brought attention to Jawwaad when he appeared on the track, “Let’s Go”, with MF DOOM. The group went on to appear on the marquee with Jay-Z at the Hove Festival in Norway, the Sonar Festival in Spain, and with Massive Attack at the Meltdown Festival in London.

Jawwaad’s appetite for all things art is apparent. A homegrown Houstonian now living in Harlem, Jawwaad started penning rhymes at the age of 12. He has worked closely with Grammy-nominated trumpet player Christian Scott and plays trumpet with the jazz group The Young Mothers. He has performed with jazz, free jazz and improvisors as well as hip-hop artists from all walks of life. The list includes Kid Jordan, The Roots, Pharcyde, William Parker, Joe McFee, Wadaleosmith and Al Foster to name a few. Jawwaad has studied and participated in workshops with Pauline Aliveros that deal with her deep listening theory. He was a member of the Deep Listening Houston youth ensemble.

Jawwaad’s newest collaboration with drummer Jamire Williams is called Black Fetish. This project pushes the limits of hip hop, rock and rhythm and blues. Jawwaad’s solo project, The Bully Love Set, is due to be released this summer.
